Dear Manu Vatuvei, Thank you for those blockbusting games you gave us weekend after weekend. Thank you for those electrifying tries you scored game after game, and in those moments when we needed you the most. Thank you for representing New Zealand with all your heart. Thank you for giving us nights to look forward to. Thank you for showing us that a Polynesian kid from South Auckland can become successful. Thank you for playing through the pain, the sweat and the tears. Thank you for showing us that your faith and what you believe in is something special and something you shouldn't take for granted. Thank you for bringing your passion, love and athleticism to the game. We will miss your try celebrations, pointing to the sky to thank God. We will miss your big smile and trademark gold teeth. We will miss screaming at the t.v as you bolted down the field to score a try. We will miss your intimidating and fierce haka's. We will miss the remarkable athlete, or should I say the 'BEAST' that was Manu Vatuvei. There will never be another one. Farewell Manu. Shontelle Matano.

To Russell Westbrook, Thank you Russ for a beyond amazing season Thank you for leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to the playoffs, which many believed would not happen Thank you for going out there every single night and playing at your ultimate peak. Thank you for the tenacious style of play you possess Thank you for the buzzer-beaters Thank you for the triple-doubles But more important than all of this, thank you for sticking with OKC and believing in your teammates and not caring about where you were on the standings or the players you had around you, instead proving people wrong and doing your best to win games and put smiles on the faces of your fans. Being a big fan of the Thunder, I was really hoping you'd make the finals and even possibly win the championship, but you know what that's okay because I know that what you've already achieved during the season was enough and you probably needed a well earned rest anyway. But what I'm trying to say is that it didn't bother me that you weren't able to get past the first round of the playoffs, because I already knew how much hard work you had put in. You've had a miraculous year, breaking Oscar Robertson's 41 triple-double record and the season that you've had will go down as if not the, but one of the best season's of any player in history. I also think your definitely going to get MVP, another milestone to add to all the other accomplishments you have. From hearing all the stories this season I was able to understand that you're not only a great player on the court but off the court your also a tremendous friend and teammate who would do anything to make sure everyone is okay and for that I say thank you.
I also just want to say a big thank you for sticking up for our very own kiwi Steven Adams and for Andre Roberson when he was laughed at. Although I only began watching the NBA during this season, I can humbly say that it was the right season to watch, I will admit every season is so exciting but this one was like no other, we may not even get to witness one like this again. So I just want to end by saying that I was so inspired by your resilience and ability to go out there and fiercely take on any obstacle in your way. I've really enjoyed watching you and the Oklahoma City Thunder play and I'm really looking forward to next season to see you guys go even further! #ThunderUp Shontelle Matano. |
