Andreescu is a go-getter always doing things with purpose. From a young age, she would meditate and visualize herself winning titles, which led her to write up her own pretend cheque at 15. She has built a winning mindset so that every time she steps into the arena, the only winner is her, At nine, she began honing her craft at the Toronto Regional Training Centre. It was there where she would practice day and night, striking the ball and mastering every shot. The 19 year-old hasn't reached the height of her career yet but has achieved so much in such a short space of time. So if there's any question about her capability to recover, she has proven over and over again that when times get tough, she will only become stronger. This couldn't be more apparent than during this year. The Canadian teen went down with a twisted knee during her group stage match against Karolina Pliskova, at the Shenzhen WTA Finals forcing her to retire. And in June a torn rotator cuff caused her to withdraw from Wimbledon. But despite this, Andreescu has shown that she is built for anything, putting together a stellar year that will never be forgotten. Credit: wtatennis.com It all began in January at the ASB Classic in Auckland, where Andreescu who was ranked 152nd in the world at the time, beat tennis Champions - Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams. New Zealand watched in awe as a tenacious and confident Andreescu went all the way to the final, losing to Julia Gorges. It may have not been clear to everyone then but, there was no doubting that as the Canadian continued to develop, she was going to become a star. Andreescu set a goal of making it into the top 100 in world rankings this year, and ended up eclipsing that, rising to number five after her historic victory against Serena Williams in the US Open Final. She's still so young but always conducts herself with such grace and maturity. This has seen her win the hearts of many around the world and clinch three other titles to go with her US Open, winning the Cincinnati Masters, Indian Wells and Rogers Cup at home. Carrying the Canadian flag and also representing her proud Romanian culture wherever she goes, she's played all around the globe and became the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam Singles title in September. Andreescu is close to reaching Milos Raonic's record of third in the world as Canada's highest ranking in the sport of tennis. If her recent success and incredible psyche is anything to go by, Andreescu looks certain to reach this in the future. Whether it was when Andreescu comforted a devastated Serena Williams in the final of the Rogers Cup, or apologised to the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium for winning the US Open - Andreescu's humility and wisdom is why she is a magnificent role model.
It's moments like these that you always remember. Andreescu has made the court her own, playing with an aggressive style, wearing a spiral hair tie on her arm and using a maple leaf racket dampener - things that will always be unique to her. She's given us thrilling performances in 2019, and set new standards for herself that will only continue to grow. Many fans now have their favourite tennis player, or their new best sporting memory. For Bianca Andreescu, you only hope that after a painful finish, everything will be okay and she'll be back better than ever. For someone so young, with so much passion and commitment she deserves that.
